Home to over 76,000 residents, the city of Fishers, a suburb if Indianapolis, is located in Fall Creek and Delaware Townships in Hamilton County.  Named the safest city in the nation by CQ press from 2011 – 2013, Fishers was also ranked the 8th best place to live my Money magazine, the best affordable suburb by BusinessWeek, and the 11th best place to move to by Forbes. Fishers officially became a city in 2015.

Fisher’s history dates back to 1802, when William Conner settled the area.  He built a trading post and log cabin on land along the White River which is now known as Conner Prairie.  Hamilton County was chartered in 1823 and Delaware township was established.  The railroad came in 1849 and the station was called Fisher’s Switch.  In 1908, the “Switch” was dropped from the name.

The city of Fishers is brimming with great shopping and dining.  From May to October, the Fishers Farmers market is a popular attraction. Deer Creek Shops includes stores such as Amish Furniture Mart, Clos, Burgess Auctions & Appraisals, and SophTec Inc.  The Centre North mall is located next to Walmart Supercenter and Marsh Supermarket and features anchors such as Staples, Pep Boys, and Petco. Other stores to look for in Fishers is Hobbytown USA, and North by Northeast Shopping Center.

Dining in Fishers is certainly a treat with the lineup of great restaurants available to residents.  Bubba's 33 is the place to go for great Pizza, Burgers, and beer.   And for a breakfast to remember, check out The RoostRockstone Pizzeria & Pub features lunch and dinner menus with knot bun and focaccia bread sandwiches, chicken dinners, and baked pasta.  Other restaurants of note are Wolfie’s Den, City Barbeque Fishers, Flamme Burger, Bento Café, and many others.


Life in Fishers is good.  As mentioned above, it’s one of the best places to live in America. Recent awards given to Fishers include #12 Top 100 Best Places to Live in America,  #3 America's Friendliest Towns, #5 Family Circle 10 Best Towns for Families and Safest City in the Nation by CQ Press.  The city has received similar awards every year since 2005.

The estimated median income for a family is over $100,000.  The top employers in Fishers include Navient,  Hamilton Southeastern Schools, Roche Diagnostics, Freedom Mortgage, and Marsh Supermarkets, and employ thousands of people.  

Parks & Recreation

Fishers offers a wealth of outdoor attractions and activities for its residents.  The Geist Reservoir offers fishing and waterskiing and is only minutes away from the Hamilton Town Center. A summer concert series is also held in Fishers called “Symphony on the Prairie” and is held at Conner Prairie.  There are also two annual festivals in Fishers - Fishers Renaissance Faire and Fishers Freedom Festival.

There are also 16 parks and nature preserves and 85 miles of trails, called the Fishers Trail & Greenway System.  Parks include Cheeney Creek Natural Area, Flatfork Creek Park, Olio Fields, Cumberland Park, and Billericay Park, to name a few.


The Hamilton Southeastern School District serves the 21,000 students of Fishers.  The school district manages 12 elementary schools, 4 intermediate, 4 junior high, and 2 high schools.  There are also 3 private schools.  Elementary schools include Cumberland Road Elementary, Fall Creek Elementary, Geist Elementary, Lantern Road Elementary, New Britton Elementary, and Thorpe Creek Elementary to name a few. Fall Creek Intermediate, Sand Creek Intermediate, Riverside Intermediate, and Hamilton Southeastern Intermediate make up the intermediate schools.  The junior high schools consist of Riverside Junior High, Hamilton Southeastern Junior High, Fishers Junior High, and Fall Creek Junior High.
